Engineering Site Leader

Enlighted was an IoT startup that had recently been acquired by Siemens and that brought an expanded market potential. As a result, the leadership team decided they needed to open another office, this time in Kitchener-Waterloo and they needed someone to recruit and manage a team while working with the California office.

The Challenge

Enlighted was an IoT startup that had recently been acquired by Siemens. The
company had developed technology to change the way commercial buildings
across North America consumed energy. With the expanded market potential
that resulted from the acquisition, the Enlighted team needed to accelerate
product development. Since building products in California would come with
challenges in both finding and retaining talent, the team sought other
locations and selected Kitchener Waterloo after an intense evaluation of
various potential global sites. This new office would now need a leader who
would be able to recruit and manage a team, working closely with other
leaders within Enlighted and Siemens.


The Solution

Artemis worked with Enlighted leaders to define the technology focus for the
team, clarifying lines of authority and autonomy, and ensuring that the
technical strengths in the local talent pool would be well leveraged.


With a well-crafted position profile, we quickly supplied a shortlist of vetted
leadership candidates and helped to prioritize the experience and skills that
would make someone successful in this role.

Enlighted successfully hired the ideal Director of Engineering/Site Leader in
David Wigg, within the ambitious 3 month goal. We worked in close
partnership with the Waterloo Economic Development team, ensuring that
Enlighted not only made a strong hire but also established a new Canadian
engineering operation with a clear mandate and a growth plan to attract,
engage and retain incredible talent - something not possible from their
California HQ.
