Business Operations Leader - Agnostiq

Who Is Agnostiq & How Are They Changing the World?

Agnostiq is on a mission to democratize access to the world’s most advanced computing resources. Founded in 2018 by Oktay Goktas and Elliot MacGowan and backed by a team of physicists, software engineers, computer scientists and mathematicians, they work at the intersection of High Performance Computing (HPC), Cloud Computing and Quantum Computing.

Their open source platform, Covalentis a multi-cloud, distributed computing framework designed to simplify access to advanced computing resources such as GPUs, ASICs, and quantum computers, to power the next generation of machine learning and quantum computing applications. The cloud-hosted, commercial version of Covalent, provides on-demand access to CPUs, GPUs and other cloud-based HPC resources. Covalent is used by leading teams at major universities, national labs, and Fortune 500 companies across North America and Europe.

Covalent is industry and vertical-agnostic, from bio & life sciences (see how Covalent streamlines biotech workflows here, & LLM workflows here), to chemistry, quantum computing, machine learning and more.

In April 2023 Agnostiq closed a $9.1M USD seed extension funding round led by Differential Ventures. Additional investors include Scout Ventures, Tensility Venture Partners, Green Egg Ventures, and Rob Granieri, principal at Jane Street Capital. This follows their $2M USD seed round in 2021 and a ~$1M pre-seed round in 2018.

Hardware and cloud providers are investing heavily in HPC systems to power the next generation of AI applications. Agnostiq, with both a commercial offering (Covalent Cloud) and open-source offering, is well-positioned to capture this emerging market!

How Will I Make An Impact?

Reporting to the COO, you will be the right-hand and force-multiplier to Agnostiq’s COO and CEO. The leadership team is looking to focus on their strengths and continue to add specialization as they grow and add more complexity.

You’ll be uniquely positioned across the entire company, learning and flexing across various functions (for example, finance, HR, marketing). You’ll go broad, not deep, to help implement standard operating procedures across functional areas. You’ll partner closely with the executive team to support strategic priorities, understanding that at this stage of growth, getting into the weeds will be part of the adventure!

You’ll be joining Agnostiq at an exciting inflection point in its growth. This is a high-impact role with the opportunity and flexibility to evolve in different directions as the business grows.

How Do I Know If This Is For Me?

  • You thrive in a fast-paced and dynamic environment, a fact you learned in a prior leadership role with a scale-up or high-growth organization

  • You’re humble; like the rest of Agnostiq’s executive team, you approach your role with a “no job too small” attitude. You understand their stage of growth and the need for every individual to be all hands on deck

  • You value breadth over depth; you thrive when you can flex your skills and learner tendencies across different functions

  • You thrive in ambiguity; you enjoy setting up or improving systems and processes across an organization, knowing how critical they’ll be to scale

  • You transition seamlessly between strategic and tactical work

  • You are technical enough to speak the language in the world of AI or HPC or Quantum.

Our Ideal Candidate Looks Like:

  • Experience in a senior leadership role in a scale-up and high-growth environment

  • Experience in a deep tech company with a highly technical product

  • Proven analytical and decision-making skills, as well as the ability to exercise sound judgment and synthesize complex information

  • A roll-up-your-sleeves approach to be both strategic & hands-on

  • Proven ability to jump into different areas of the business: from finance and HR to marketing and customer success

  • While Agnostiq is a fully remote company, the ability to travel globally to conferences, tradeshows and client sites is required

  • Nice-to-have: experience using software tools like Notion, Figma and Hubspot

The Process:

While the process may evolve, the general steps look like:

Step 1: Meeting with the CEO/Co-Founder and COO/Co-Founder

Step 2: Interview with the CEO/Co-Founder and COO/Co-Founder

Step 3: Meet the team

Step 4: In-person meet and greet with Co-Founders

Step 5: References and Offer!
