Who Is Pioneer Fund & How Are They Changing the World
Pioneer Fund is a venture capital firm built by Y Combinator alumni to invest in the next generation of early-stage startups. With a network of over 450 YC founders, they offer founders not just capital, but an index of experience, technical insight, and operational support. By investing in the top of each YC batch, they are scaling a fund model designed to consistently back breakout companies, while building an internal tech stack that makes investing at scale efficient, founder-friendly, and fast.
How Will I Make An Impact?
As the first dedicated engineering hire, you’ll architect the next evolution of Pioneer Fund's proprietary tech stack - transforming the internal systems that power their deal flow, diligence, and founder support. You'll:
- Lead the rebuild of core infrastructure, migrating from Airtable and no-code tools to a robust engineered platform
- Own the database and data integrity across thousands of interactions and companies
- Integrate AI tools into workflows that help identify and support the best startups in the world
- Build secure, scalable systems for internal collaboration and LP reporting
- Empower partners and operators to do their best work by turning fragmented tools into seamless experiences
How Do I Know If This Is For Me? This is a fit if you:
- Are energized by building internal systems that scale with high impact organizations
- Love translating business needs into elegant technical solutions
- Want to own architecture and strategy, not just implement someone else’s plan
- Are excited by a mission-driven team with deep founder empathy and high standards
- Prefer fast iterations over bureaucratic perfection
Our Ideal Candidate Looks Like: We’re looking for someone who:
- Is experienced in full-stack development and has owned an entire tech stack
- Is fluent in modern tools like TypeScript, Python, or other scalable frameworks
- Can design and maintain relational databases and plan for migration from legacy stacks
- Understands DevOps, CI/CD, and secure infrastructure best practices
- Thrives in ambiguity and startup environments
- May have founder or startup builder experience (YC alumni a plus, but not required)
- Is based in Toronto (ideal) and open to hybrid in-office work (2 days/week), or located elsewhere in Canada with occasional travel
- The role may require on-call time, such as resolving emergency bugs on the weekend which should be around an 1-2 hours a month.
