VP Engineering- GhostRetail

Are you looking to join a rapidly-growing, well-funded company and help them scale? Are you excited about redefining the future of e-commerce by reimagining the way people shop online? If so, this may be a career-defining role for you.

Who Is GhostRetail & How Are They Changing the World?

GhostRetail is the first 1:1 live video shopping platform to deliver a complete in-store experience online. They’ve created a completely new channel for enterprise retailers, driving significant growth through delivering a personalized and seamless co-shopping experience online.

Fortune 500 brands including American Eagle, Canada Goose and Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment have signed on to augment their in-store and eCommerce sales with personalized live video co-shopping. With GhostRetail’s white-label platform, brands can drive significant incremental revenue by increasing their online conversions by 7x, growing basket sizes and decreasing returns. They can also engage with their customers through a new channel and drive personalized, human connections with their customers.

The results are in and customers are seeing the impact of this new channel: "The pandemic has accelerated the personalization of the eCommerce experience," said Karen Peters, SVP, Global Retail Operations – AEO Inc. "The need for real human interaction on digital channels has never been greater and the American Eagle brand's AE Live app, powered by GhostRetail, provides an innovative, cohesive shopping experience that enables our brand ambassadors to connect with our customer community in a way that is fun, engaging and will help to drive traffic." How Will I Make An Impact?

GhostRetail is reimagining how e-Commerce works, and we’re looking for an experienced scale-up engineering leader to guide the engineering teams' success. Reporting to the CTO/Co-Founder, you will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the development team.

This role is a mix of technical and people leadership with a strong emphasis on company building and team operations. You will hire, grow, train and support the rapidly scaling engineering team (currently 20 engineers including 3 team leads and growing) and define how they build software at scale and how each team works together.

Does This Sound Like You?

On the management front, you'll:

  • Mentor, develop, and guide your engineering Team Leads and engineers so they can do their best work.

  • Help guide the team on important architectural and long-term engineering decisions, as well as shorter-term tradeoffs.

  • Participate in all steps of the recruiting process to build the engineering team.

  • Work as an effective leader across the organization, and collaborate with other leaders to translate the business priorities of the company into a technical agenda.

  • Be responsible for your team’s deliverables and operational excellence, including resource allocation across multiple teams, setting OKRs and overall performance management.

As a manager of engineers and a technology leader, you'll:

  • Be a key strategic contributor to the engineering vision and roadmap planning in collaboration with the Head of Product and CTO.

  • Execute on the product roadmap by enabling your team to develop clean, high-quality code, shipped on time.

  • Create an engineering culture that strikes the right balance between technical quality and the speed necessary for GhostRetail’s stage.

  • Build a deep understanding of their code bases and the unique needs of their various users.

  • Balance short-term and long-term product/business-focused work with technical debt and strategic technical development.

  • Coordinate and be responsible for deliverables across multiple teams and individuals, tracking progress, blockers and cross-team dependencies.

Our Ideal Candidate Has:

  • Experience in a senior leadership role in a scale-up environment (ideally you’ve seen the $10-$50M revenue growth stage).

  • A background of hands-on development roles working with both web and native mobile applications (direct experience in both is a huge plus).

  • You have managed a team of 25-50 or more engineers, and managed engineering managers or directors of engineering.

  • Proven ability to ensure operational efficiency through data-driven reporting, monitoring and analysis of key performance metrics (burn rate, velocity etc.).

  • Proven ability to deliver complex technology solutions requiring coordination across multiple engineering and infrastructure teams.

  • Experience building and retaining highly engaged engineering and infrastructure teams, as well as assisting with their individual career plans.

  • Experience with planning and allocating large budgets.

  • Demonstrated business and technical acumen to learn quickly and pick up industry-specific knowledge (experience in enterprise SaaS is a huge plus).

  • Ability to convey complex technical issues to a non-technical audience.

  • Comfort and experience working in a distributed team environment (as a result, the location is flexible for this role).
