Engineering Leader - Estate Kit

About Estate Kit & What We’re Building

Estate Kit is a mission-driven SaaS company preparing for launch, building a secure, consumer-focused platform that helps people organize, safeguard, and share their most important information. In addition to our direct-to-consumer product, we’re developing strategic B2B partnerships that deepen our impact through organizations serving the same audience.

We’re bringing modern, privacy-first technology to a space that affects everyone yet has been chronically underserved. With a functional MVP ready for launch, we’re looking for a seasoned technical leader to evolve our production infrastructure, strengthen security controls, and establish the operational foundation that builds and maintains user trust as we scale.

How You’ll Make an Impact

Own security and compliance

Identify and close security gaps, design security-first architecture, and guide us through SOC 2. You understand auditor expectations, know how to build systems that earn user trust at scale, and can inspire confidence with enterprise clients, financial partners, and advisors.

Maintain and evolve production infrastructure

Own monitoring, logging, alerting, CI/CD, and incident response. Keep shipping smooth and systems reliable. You bring strong DevOps/SRE experience and understand what it takes to mature production operations as the product grows.

Establish operational discipline

Define testing strategies, code review processes, deployment procedures, incident management, and documentation. You bring just the right amount of process to ensure safety and predictability without slowing a fast-moving team.

Coach and elevate the team

Promote clarity, accountability, and calm execution across a small, high-performing group. You raise the bar through mentorship, pairing, and thoughtful standards—all while keeping the team intentionally lean.

Lead across the full stack

Drive architectural decisions spanning frontend (React/Next.js), backend (.NET), cloud infrastructure (AWS), and data (PostgreSQL). You’ll have depth in one or two areas and rely on teammates for implementation in others, but you can evaluate trade-offs across the entire system.

Be hands-on

Write code, debug production issues, review architecture, and handle incidents. You’re both strategist and builder—equally comfortable defining technical vision and digging into a deployment failure.

Partner with the founder

Translate business priorities into technical decisions. Make build-vs-buy calls. Act as the technical voice in leadership discussions while communicating with clarity and calm.

How Do I Know If This Is For Me?
  • You’re energized by early-stage building — turning strong code and vision into mature systems and culture.
  • You want to work alongside a thoughtful founder who values integrity, trust, and long-term impact over chaos or ego.
  • You’re comfortable with ambiguity and excited by the opportunity to bring order, clarity, and discipline.
  • You care about product quality, reliability, and security as much as speed.
  • You want your work to matter — not just to the company, but to the people it serves.
What We’re Looking For

Infrastructure & Site Reliability expertise

You’ve built and maintained production operations at a startup: CI/CD pipelines, monitoring, observability, incident response, and deployment automation. You’re comfortable with AWS, infrastructure-as-code, and modern DevOps practices.

Security & compliance background

You’ve led or contributed to SOC 2 (or similar) for products handling sensitive or regulated data. You understand secure architecture beyond checklists and can navigate trade-offs between security and development speed.

Full-stack architectural thinking

You can make sound decisions across frontend, backend, cloud, and data layers. You don’t need expert-level skills in every technology but must be able to lead end-to-end technical strategy.

Startup experience

You’ve served as a technical leader or early engineer at a pre-seed to Series A startup. You know how to build with constraints, move fast responsibly, and lay strong foundations.

Still codes

You stay close to the work: writing production code, reviewing PRs, interviewing engineers, and debugging real issues.

Strong communicator

You translate complex technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders and maintain a calm, credible presence with customers, partners, investors, and auditors.

This Might Not Be For You If…
  • You’re looking for a large, mature engineering organization
  • You prefer late-stage environments with fully specialized teams
  • You want to focus exclusively on strategy without hands-on work
  • You haven’t worked with production infrastructure recently
  • You need highly predictable systems that change slowly
  • You don’t have experience with sensitive data security/compliance
Why This Role Matters

Impact

Your work protects people’s most important information. The infrastructure and controls you build establish trust at scale and support scrutiny from enterprise clients and financial partners.

Ownership

You’ll define engineering culture, operational discipline, and technical strategy from the ground up.

Growth

As Estate Kit scales, you’ll shape both systems and the team—enabling secure, rapid expansion and supporting enterprise onboarding waves of 10,000+ new users.

Mission

We’re building technology that supports people during some of life's most stressful and important moments—not ad tech, not social media, but something meaningfully useful and human-centered.

Expectations & Working Style

Team

You’ll join a small team of engineers and contractors. We aim to keep engineering intentionally small and highly capable over the long term—prioritizing thoughtful design, modular architecture, and automation that scales product, not headcount.

On-call

Yes. Initially, you'll be the primary technical point for production issues and the senior escalation tier long term.

The Interview Process
